By tranquil waters..and still the mullet run
NFS
76 x 102cm
From Yagoona to the sea, the ancient Cooks river has long been a river of dreams. It contends with the destructions, impositions, and poisons exacted in the name of urban growth. It is also the site of constructed urban Edens - parks, pathways and bush pockets. It’s crossed by infrastructure - bridges, acqua ducts, railway lines and the wires of transmission towers. Its waters have held up many vessels. It persists - in its tides and floods, in its mangroves and birds and in the schools of mullet that run its length every autumn. Here is cadmium red for its energy, life and the dangers it must face, white for the ghosts and city lights and paynes grey for its dark and deep.
