PRIZE CATEGORIES & ELIGIBILITY

Employees of Inner West Council and City of Canterbury Bankstown Council are not eligible to enter.

Artists may enter a total of two artworks, using separate entry forms, in any of the main categories. PLUS up to two photographs in the GreenWay Community Photography Prize. 

 

e.g. one Open Prize entry, one Small Sculpture Prize entry and two Community Photography Prize entries or two Open Prize entries and one Photography Prize entry 

 

 

GREENWAY Open Art Prize – $6,000
$5,000 Cash + two-week solo exhibition at Art Est. Art School and Gallery valued at $1000. 
All mediums (excluding photography) Open all to artists with wall mounted artworks 

 

COOKS RIVER Small Sculpture Prize – $2,000
Free standing sculpture, open all to artists. 

 

GREENWAY Community Photography Prize (Adult) – $500 / $300
GREENWAY Community Photography Prize (Youth) – $200 / $100

Photography, open to all artists. (moving image of any kind, not eligible)

 

GREENWAY LOCAL ARTIST Prize - $1,500

All mediums (excluding photography) Open all to artists with wall mounted artworks,
living or working within the Inner West Council and City of Canterbury-Bankstown local government areas. 

 

DERIVAN People’s Choice Award – $500
Hamper of Derivan Matisse art supplies valued at $500, all categories eligible

SELECTION CRITERIA
 

THE GREENWAY ART PRIZE celebrates the precious urban green corridor in Sydney’s Inner West and aims to capture the essence of the GreenWay through visual art. 
 

  • All entries must be the artist’s original work and have been produced within the last year;
     

  • Artworks will be selected according to artistic merit and relevance to one or more of the GreenWay themes: urban environment, community connections and sustainable transport and in the case of the Cook’s River Small Sculpture Prize, waterways;
     

  • Open Art Prize and Local Prize entries will not exceed 100cm in height or width, including frames and other mounting devices;
     

  • Cooks River Small Sculpture Prize entries will not exceed 45cm in any direction. Works must be sturdy, easily moved and suitable for display on a plinth;
     

  • Adult Community Photography Prize will be selected on the basis of artistic merit. Photos will have been taken within the Greenway catchment i.e. not more than 500m from the GreenWay/Light Rail corridor and within the last year, addressing the theme of Communities of the GreenWay;
     

  • Youth Community Photography Prize Entrants must be under 18 years of age as at 14 October 2019 -  criteria as for the Adult Prize above;
     

  • Photographic works will be supplied as a 300dpi, high resolution jpg. not larger than 5MB.

     

EXHIBITION
 
  • Finalists’ artwork will be exhibited in the GreenWay Art Prize exhibition at Art Est. Art School & Gallery
     

  • Selected works will tour to Seaview Gallery, Dulwich Hill in November, and Bankstown Arts Centre in December/January. Artists selected for these additional exhibition opportunities will be notified in the week following the Art Est. opening.
     

  • Photography Prize finalists' artwork will be compiled and shown onscreen at all exhibition venues.
    Winners will be invited to mount and frame their work for exhibition

     

  • The placement of finalists' works within the exhibition is at the discretion of the curator/curatorial team.

 

 

INSTALLATION DETAILS

 

  • All works on paper, drawings, prints and paintings must be professionally mounted and framed or on stretched canvas with D rings attached, ready for hanging.

 

  • For all other wall mounted works, fixtures and detailed instructions for hanging must be supplied by the artist and approved by the GREENWAY Art Prize install team.
     

  • The Gallery reserves the right to reject a work, if on delivery it's considered too fragile or unstable for safe display, or too heavy or difficult to handle and install.
     

 

 

ARTWORK DELIVERY
 

Deliver selected artwork to Art Est. Gallery and Art School  –  4/67-69 Lords Road Leichhardt, NSW
Friday 25 October, 2pm – 4pm   or   Saturday 26 October, 10am – 4pm
 

  • Clearly identify your delivery with the LABEL SUPPLIED with your acceptance letter – includes entrant’s name, contact address, email and telephone number, the title, the price of the work (if for sale); and the category entered into.
     

  • Attach any particular display requirements.
     

  • Art Est. Gallery will store packing materials for the duration of the exhibition provided it’s contained and clearly labelled as above
     

  • Freight and transport costs in both directions are the responsibility of the artist.

SECURITY, LIABILITY AND INSURANCE

 

Artists exhibit at their own risk and insurance is the artist’s responsibility. GREENWAY Art Prize and host venues will exercise reasonable care, but are not responsible for loss or damage to any work while in its custody, during transit or on exhibition. All exhibition venues have public liability and fire protection insurance. Additional insurance, if desired, is the responsibility of the entrant. 

 

COPYRIGHT, PHOTOGRAPHS AND MEDIA

 

Artists grant GREENWAY Art Prize and its licensees the right to reproduce their work, in part or in full, and biographical material by any means in any media for archival and promotional purposes. The artist and their gallery (if applicable) will be properly acknowledged in such material.

 

 

SALE OF ARTWORK
 

All artwork is for sale unless otherwise specified. Commission on sales is 25% (exclusive of GST). 
 

GREENWAY Art Prize will split commission with a represented artist's gallery. Artists are responsible for notifying their gallery of the sale.
 

 

HOW TO ENTER
 

Complete online entry form   NB: ONE FORM for each artwork entered.
 

  • Choose your prize category and enter artwork details
    NB: GreenWay Open Art Prize entrants only must also attach a one page artist CV

     

  • Provide a brief artist statement about your work and its relevance to the prize theme 
    (max 150 words) per artwork.

     

  • Upload Image 300dpi jpeg of your work  (2MB)
    Community Photography Prize, upload 300dpi jpeg no larger than 5MB 

     

  • Image files must be named 'surname_firstname_title_medium_size' 
     

  • Make sure you’ve addressed the theme in your statement and your images are good quality and representative  of the work. 
     

  • Pay your entry fee/s by PayPal or by Direct Deposit  NB: One fee for each artwork entered. 
     

Incomplete entries, late entries, or those that do not meet the stated criteria, will not be considered.
