River path

99x64cm (dimensions of diptych)

This diptych (both paintings to be framed separately) takes an aerial perspective of an abstract landscape inspired by the story-telling and visual culture of First Nations peoples. It represents a personal cartography, developed instinctually, through semi-transparent layers mark-making and brushwork. It aims to invite curiosity and contemplation, to create a space in which viewers can immerse themselves, just as our green spaces do. There is a ‘River Path’; it could be one of several paths meandering though the scene, including some hidden beneath the surface. Viewers can follow their own paths and make their own connections yet allow room for the unknown and the inexplicable, and perhaps be reminded that there is more to the world than rational materialism.
