Maps of Being, Hawthorn Canal
ink on polyester drafting film

As an emerging visual artist my performative drawing practice seeks to capture that which is quite ephemeral. In this case, my responses to the expressions of joy evident in behaviour of dogs who visited the Hawthorn Canal dog park over a two-hour period on Tuesday 11 June, 2024. From left to right, I have captured two Fox Terriers, one brown Kelpie and, in the larger work, an array of dogs including a Labrador, a Blue Heeler, a Whippet, several poodles and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. In mapping fleeting occurrences and associated sentiments I am acting as a self-recording system, ensuring that in the moment of drawing, I am deeply connected to my surroundings.
