To identify the types of cocoons in bush-sites, the key elements are the shape of the cocoon, material, colour and placement hanging from trees, shrubs or piles of leaves. Most moths create cocoons of silk and start out white then turn to brown. Beatles, wasps and other insects can also create cocoons which can survive under environment forces along the Greenway. As a natural process within the cocoon life transforms by metamorphoses of the caterpillar to the butterfly. My sculpture symbolises a place of security while changes occur both inside the cocoon and outside of it. By enlarging the cocoon this gives it greater impact and at the same time it is still seen as a fragile object. I like the idea of using felt as a protective layer. I find the opaqueness of the cocoon with an open end from which life has escaped, enthralling.
