Down to the Wire
acrylic on wood
Growing up in rural Australia I developed a love of nature and animals big or small. Now, living in a recognised bird corridor that leads to the greenway I am constantly amazed by the wild life I see from my inner west window. The way they adapt to their urban environment never ceases to impress me. On any given day I see these birds from my lounge room. They adapt to our urban structures using telegraph poles as though they are trees. They congregate in front of vivid sunsets and create a cacophony of conversation as though they are commenting on each others predicaments. I have painted the birds I see and the way they live on the edge of the greenway and their urban environment. I have used a flat pink background to symbolise the sunset and layered the artwork with different textures to reflect the many layers of birdlife in this environment.
