Dancing Pineapple

mid-fire clay, underglaze luster
14 x14 x 30cm

My ceramic sculptures are a reflection of my childhood solitude, a time when I sought companionship in the objects around me. By incorporating legs into these objects, I bring to life imaginative friends that embody a sense of whimsical presence and connection. Mushrooms, a recurring motif in my work, symbolize both my personal growth and the intrinsic beauty that emerges from embracing the natural world. In my creative process, I use Pineapple and Corn - ingredients I discovered in a Vietnamese grocery store in Marrickville—as mold for my sculptures. This choice of material grounds my work in the cultural diversity of my surroundings, celebrating both my personal journey and the enchantment found in everyday moments. Through this fusion of personal narrative and local influence, I aim to create pieces that resonate with a sense of wonder and connection.
