Drinks on Tap

recycled and repurposed metals
55 x 16 x 59cm

My sculpture, the Australian magpie drinking water from a tap, is a testament to this delicate balance between human development and the natural world. Capturing the essence of urban ecology, this piece portrays a familiar sight: a magpie, symbolic of urban wildlife, quenching its thirst from a humble tap. But look closer, and you'll see more than just a bird and a faucet. Each component of this sculpture, meticulously crafted from recycled metal, tells a story of resourcefulness and adaptation. Its choice to drink from a tap, a symbol of human intervention in the environment, speaks to the ways in which wildlife adapt to changing landscapes. Yet, even in this act, there is beauty and harmony—a reminder that nature finds ways to thrive amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. Through this sculpture, I seek to provoke reflection on our relationship with the natural world and the impact of our actions on urban ecosystems. By repurposing discarded metal into a depiction of urban wildlife, I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of preserving biodiversity.
