I have made a soft sculpture of the Eastern Whipbird. When researching the birds of the Greenway, I was surprised the Eastern Whipbird was not on the list. I live near Wolli Creek Regional Park, just on the other side of the Greenway, and have often heard the beautiful and unique call of the Eastern Whipbird in the local bushland. Looking at the Atlas of Living Australia website, I was shocked to discover there had not been a recorded sighting of the Eastern Whipbird in the Greenway area for more than 100 years. They are a secretive bird, heard, but not often seen. They build their nests on the ground, and live in dense scrub near waterways. Sadly, there is no recorded sighting along the Hawthorne canal, originally a natural waterway known as Long Cove Creek.
