The tawny frogmouth is a fascinating bird that camouflages itself so well, it’s very difficult to spot them during daylight hours. At night time they feast upon insects and are an absolute asset in any urban garden when it comes to natural 'pest control'. However, our overuse of pesticides and toxic chemicals to curtail the insects in our backyards has a negative impact on the tawny frogmouth population as they become victims of residual pesticide poisoning. The title of my artwork, 'You Won’t See Me' highlights the fact that these birds are not only brilliant at concealment but the sad fact that due to their decline in numbers, sighting one will be extremely rare. We won’t see them.
