My sculpture embodies the theme of sustainability by transforming discarded wood into a work of art. Collected from Sydney’s Inner West, this recycled material, once deemed waste, is reborn as a circular sculpture with an “ouroboros” motif. The ring, with its polished finish, symbolizes unity and wholeness, reflecting the cyclical nature of life and the interconnectedness of all things. Just as a river’s journey ends in the sea, where it transforms and becomes part of a larger whole, this piece represents the transition from raw nature to renewed artistic expression. The contrasting shapes within both halves of the ring, and the dynamic balance with its support arm emphasize the harmony between opposing forces. This sculpture demonstrates how beauty and meaning can emerge from what is often overlooked, highlighting the potential for renewal and harmony in our environment.
