Ibis on the river bank

NFS
120 x 40 cm

Mosaic tiles, oyster shells, buttons, stones, mud, glass and pottery fragments on builders masonite board. This mosaic celebrates the reclamation of the banks of the Cooks River at Marrickville where the old concrete walls have been removed. Over recent years the saltmarsh and mangrove flats have returned, bringing ibis, heron and other birds foraging for crabs. This artwork also imagines and hopes for a rewilded future of Hawthorn Canal as the natural waterway it once was, lined with mangroves flats and salt marsh as it enters Iron Cove. The work is entirely composed of recycled and found local materials including oyster shells and dried and sifted river mud mixed into the mosaic grout, pottery and glass fragments found along the river, and tiles and buttons from Reverse Garbage. [About the artist: I work in recycled and found materials and exhibit at local community events. My work has been featured on Sydney Craft Week and Reverse Garbage instagram pages]
