‘Sitting Kookaburra’ captures a cheeky personality that is no stranger to the Greenway Corridor. This particular kookaburra was a greedy character, he would hog the food from his fellow birds until I shooed him away. Here he sits, waiting for my presence to leave so that he can continue his greedy indulgence. The artwork is rendered on a found canvas sourced from Greenway, the canvas's previous life is naturally integrated into the piece. I enjoy working on preloved material, it allows me to connect to history and moments of joy within a community. The past life of materials always exists, regardless of what is painted on top. It is satisfying to create a painting that will return to its original community.
