Bin Chicken

photo collage

76 x 98cm

This piece is a photographic manipulation - created from images of found litter on the streets in our urban environment, made into the form of an Australian White Ibis, both affectionately and derisively known as the 'Bin Chicken'. Interaction with human waste practices have reshaped the species, causing it to urbanise itself and in some places vacate its natural habitat leaving a hole in the local ecosystem. The component material was gathered off the streets, shot in studio conditions and composited in Photoshop, with about 45 hours of work and over 1,000 layers.
