Never Eat Soggy Weet Bix

oil pastels on cardboard 210cm

My artwork, 'Never Eat Soggy Weet Bix', is a vibrant cross-section that captures the diverse character of Sydney, with a special focus on the Inner West and the Greenway. Using cardboard, oil pastel, and acrylic paint, I chose these mediums over traditional canvas to better reflect the playful and textured nature of my work. The composition is arranged like a compass, with the city at the center, surrounded by representations of Sydney's north, east, south, and west. Inspired by Reg Mombassa’s cartoony and surrealist style, I’ve blended his influence with my own approach, creating anamorphic characters that humorously depict the stereotypes and everyday scenes typical of these areas. The Inner West, in particular, is portrayed with a quirky, exaggerated lens, highlighting its unique vibe within Sydney’s broader landscape. Through this piece, I aim to entertain while offering a light-hearted commentary on the distinct personalities that define different parts of our city.
