Into the Woods
watercolour and pen 42 x 33cm
I am a local artist who lives in the Dulwich Hill area in Sydney’s Inner-west. I set myself a challenge this year, to get to know my local area a bit better. I began to photograph, draw and paint some of the my favourite spots which included the bush care regeneration site in Johnson Park, just near the Arlington Light rail stop. While it is only a small part of the park, it is one of many sites along the Cooks River Greenway that aim to re-establish the Turpentine Iron-bark trees and vegetation that are native to the area. My artworks submitted for the Greenway Prize use a mixture of watercolour and pen to capture the beauty of these small but precious parts of the inner-west that provide us with a chance to experience and protect all that is so beautiful in the natural environment of our local area. This picture depicts the pathway through Johnson Park that is being extended to lead to the Cooks River.
