Intertwining Ecology
NFS
36 x 88cm
I have been working/volunteering in inner west for the last year and every month have a stall at the sustainable markets in Summerhill. I always stop at the Greenway en route with my dog and take in the beauty of this urban renewal space. I have always created in my life which helps brings balance and joy. Recently I have been exploring using stitches and surface fabric rubbing to depict the elements of a place. In this piece I have tried to represent the water channels by use of long blue/aqua green stitches ,the vegetation by green leaf designs, both moving dynamically through the piece. The more concentracted areas of stitching show the surrounding bricks of buildings, bridges and transport lines .The grey knots represent the stony nature of the cycle or walking paths. I have tried to reflect the subtlety and fragility of this environment and depict the ecology of the Greenway by the delicacy of my stitching
