As I walk my dogs everyday through the parklands of inner city Sydney, I am constantly reminded of what was then and what is now. There are parks and open spaces that exist now, that were not long ago toxic waste dumps, polluted swamps and out of bounds industrial foreshores. Over time, they have been slowly and careful regenerated and restored as green public spaces. There is of course more to do to address the impacts of human activity on our remarkable landscape and consolidate the connection to land that our First Nations people have managed so carefully, but these spaces remind me that with thought, care, and good planning, dreams are possible.
