My ceramic monster is a unique fusion of mythology, cultural heritage, and the vibrant spirit of the Inner West. Drawing inspiration from ancient stories that have shaped our understanding of the world, I imagined a creature that could inhabit the rich, diverse landscapes of this area. The patterns that adorn my work are deeply rooted in my Aboriginal heritage, embodying the stories and symbols passed down through generations. The blue and white palette reflects the timeless beauty of Eastern and Western ceramic traditions, creating a visual dialogue between cultures. This creature is not just a representation of the past but a reflection of the ever-evolving identity of the Inner West, where old and new, indigenous and immigrant, coexist. It stands as a guardian of the land, embodying the resilience and creativity that define our community.
