Urban Ecologies (Part 1)

acrylic on canvas

92 x 62cm

Inspired by the evocative images prepared for the Greenway Missing Links Project. This work forms part of an exploration into the potential urban ecology for the future Greenway. It explores the notions of imperfection, luminosity and the fluidity between nature and the built environment in a dreamlike, abstracted way. Experimenting with watered-down acrylic paints in order to play with depth and consistency, the work combines colour, layering and transparency. This intentional blend of painterly techniques and elements of chance results in a work that is ambiguous yet organic in their nature. I’ve slowly developed a passion for working on medium to large-scale abstract paintings, which I see as an extension of my ongoing meditation practice and investigations into form and colour. Along with a sense of light, air, fluidity and space, the notions of luminosity, transcendence and liberation are ever-present in my work as a painter.
