Daydream in yellow and green

Acrylic and flashe on board 73 x 63cm

In recent times I’ve looked towards my immediate domestic and urban surrounds for imagery, shapes, form and colours. Part of my daily ritual is a walk around a section of the Cooks River between Earlwood and Hurlstone Park. The pathway winds and loops along the river with bridge crossings along the route. On these walks my mind is calmed by the quietness of the river and the leafy surrounds. It’s a time to consider the history of the river, appreciate the bird life and the newly planted grasses and native pants. Beginning with small quick automatic like and playful drawings this painting took shape and was inspired by these everyday habitual walks. Introspective conceptualisations of geometry, colour and pattern express my subconscious ruminations on happiness and how these green spaces are an essential oasis for the urban environment.
